Must See Countries and Cities!

In planning a 6 week trip to Europe one of the first things you need to figure out is WHERE do you want to go and WHAT do you want to see?

To help us figure out the answers to these questions we started out by watching "Passport to Europe with Samantha Brown" on Travel Channel. Then we started stalking the Eurail website to learn more about our pass options (we're doing Global Flexi 15 days in 2 months, btw). Then finally we picked up the newest edition of Europe by Eurail.

Not until we had done all of this did we even BEGIN to brainstorm our "must list". Currently I've got the following on my list:

France: Paris
Spain: Madrid, Barcelona
Germany: Berlin, Munich
Denmark: Copenhagen
Belgium: Brussels
The Netherlands: Amsterdam
Czech Republic: Prague
Switzerland: Bern, Zurich, Interlacken
Greece: Patrtas, Athens
Italy: Verona, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Napoli, Rome

This list is in no way complete, yet. If at all possible we're going to try and get up to Stockholm, Sweden as well.

It'll be interesting to see how much this changes by the time we finalize our itenerary. :)

Safe Travels,
-Kit

  1. Naples is kinda lame. If you're gonna go south, you HAVE to do Sorrento and Capri. They were absolutely gorgeous.

    Bruges > Brussels

Lucerne, Switzerland is pretty too. My friends and I were only in the country one day, so we wanted a smaller/more authentic Swiss town to explore, so we chose this one. It's like a thirty minute train ride from Zurich. We went to the top of Mt. Pilatus and that was awesome because it wasn't super far like the Matterhorn is from a big city, but you still get to see the Alps. I dunno how long y'all wanna stay in Switzerland though. It all depends.

Pisa takes like three hours if you're walking from the train station because all they have there is the tower and cathedral. Cinque Terre is super close and it's FANTASTIC. Please look it up. It's totally worth it. Ha ha.

Oh, and I just wanna re-emphasize that Prague is the best. :)

  2. Great info Claire!! Three hours to get to Pisa from the station does not sound exciting.

We want to go to Interlacken, Switzerland because Heather is in love with the ice palace/hotel up there. (Thanks a lot Sam Brown!) We'll have to check out Lucerne too!

I definately like Prague more and more as I look into it. :)

  3. I meant like you could see the entire city of Pisa in three hours if you're coming by train. My friends took a bus with their class and they saw the whole city in one hour because they didn't have to walk. There's really just nothing else to see in Pisa other than the tower and cathedral and it's like a 45 minute walk across town from the station and there's not much to do inbetween. It's worth a see just so you can say you saw the tower, etc., but you don't need to plan for anymore time there, so that's why I recommended stopping in Pisa on the way to Cinque Terre or something.

  4. Oh even better! I totally mis-read that. Why do we find a leaning tower so facinating anyways?!
